As access to space grows, the sustainable use of orbits becomes more important. We apply the following principles in all our satellite and launch programmes.
Reducing space debris
- Satellites in low orbit are designed to re-enter the atmosphere within five years of mission end (in line with IADC guidelines).
- Upper stages of launch vehicles are passivated; remaining propellant and pressure are vented.
- Satellites carry propulsion or a drag sail for end-of-life disposal.
Environment and test safety
Test ranges carry out environmental monitoring of propellant storage, combustion products and noise. All firings are coordinated with the relevant authorities for airspace and sea-area restrictions; nobody is inside the safety zone.
Transparency
Orbit data for each satellite is reported to public databases. Results of scientific campaigns are shared as open access.
